About the Job

Reporting to the Category Manager, the Procurement Specialist will support Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Supplier Diversity, and Supplier Relationships of approximately $150M in purchased goods and services as well as the governance of the procurement process.

This is a newly created role as a part of a strategic initiative by the company to scale its Global Procurement function and will have significant support & visibility of the Executive leadership. This position will interact closely with senior leaders of the company in the development and implementation of strategic sourcing for the identified categories. Successful candidates will be able to execute Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management, Benefit Tracking, Contract Management and Internal Stakeholder Management activities delivering total cost of ownership savings and procurement process improvements for an assigned set of categories.

As a Procurement Specialist you will:

  • Support Category Manager in the development and implementation of Category Strategy in line with the established overall Procurement Strategy.

  • Coordinate and execute strategic sourcing activities in line with the category strategy

  • Manage the pipeline of sourcing requests

  • Review sourcing & procurement requests and enforce global & category specific policy adherence

  • Execute Spot Buying

  • Facilitate the Procure to Pay process, analytics, research, and administrative functions of the procurement organization

  • Develop market intelligence needed for effective sourcing

  • Support and coordinate reporting and analytics – spend, benefit/cost savings, KPI/metrics, etc.

  • Maintain master data

  • Support management and compliance management

About the team

The Global Procurement team will define category management and sourcing strategies as well as oversee and negotiate new and existing supplier contracts on behalf of Akamai. Team works collaboratively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify continuous cost and performance improvement strategies. Team ensures Akamai is compliant with best practices and existing business policies and procedures.

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or

  • 3+ years of relevant experience and a Masters degree

Detailed Skills Requirement

  • Experience with Flash Memory/storage ecosystem (SSD, HDD, RAM, etc.) and building market intelligence (supply trends, price trends, key vendors, etc.) Experience with x86 based servers, their components and functions

  • Experience identifying continuous cost and performance improvement strategies with suppliers and internal stakeholders

  • Experience negotiating, initiating and terminating contracts with regards to category

  • Experience working with top server component manufacturers and their resellers/partners

  • Experience negotiating and contracting with OEM or white label manufacturers
