Akamai’s services have stringentperformance requirements and our ability to deliver these services at scale ina complex environment is a significant challenge. Network Control at Akamaioversees Akamai’s proprietary mapping control system that determines howend-users transact with Akamai’s platform and ultimately directs how Akamai’sservices are delivered over the Internet. In this role, you will draw upon your optimization background to helpdetermine how we manage capacity to deliver our services. You will draw uponyour computing and coding skills to enhance the systems that we use to managethe mapping control system. You will apply your analytical skills to make senseof data that can be distilled to determine quality. You will learn about the complexcontrol system that operates in real time and manage it to optimize theexperience of Internet end-users around the globe. And finally, you will workwith a variety of teams around the business to help set and deliver performanceexpectations.

Responsibilities

Each team member contributes to thefollowing specific areas:

* Build software systems andautomations to establish proper mapping control policies that support ourcustomers and products. 



* Build and adapt capacity allocationoptimization models, and implement methods to solve models using formalmathematical programming tools and heuristic strategies

* Analysis tasks related to diagnosingmapping control system behaviors in response to escalations

* Mine data to evaluate and trackmapping quality, establish monitoring and automate anomaly response process.

* Work closely with the business unitsto define product and customer quality of service requirements and use therequirements to drive how we allocate network capacity.

* Work closely with Engineering teams,specifically with those that design and implement the mapping/control systemsand server software that are the heart of Akamai’s technology, in order to helpguide adoption of new features and determine where to make new technologyinvestments.

The Network Control Team is an elitegroup of technical contributors. The team has individuals with strengths inoptimization, network analysis, computing, statistics, machine learning, bigdata analysis methodologies, and distributed systems. They are individuals who enjoy taking aholistic view of complex systems. The team tends to tackle difficult problemsthat go beyond having simple answers. This is precisely what makes the job funand rewarding to anyone seeking a challenge.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or

  • 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree

Required Skills

  • 5 years experience analyzing complex systems

  • 2 years algorithmic design and coding experience (Python, perl, R, etc.)

  • 2 years experience with statistics and data analysis

  • 2 years decision and optimization model experience

  • 2 years experience working in a UNIX/Linux computing environment (shell scripting, SQL, etc.)

Desired Skills

  • Experience with big data techniques and frameworks (Hadoop, Hive, Sparks etc.)

  • Experience with internetworking technology concepts, networking protocols, and large scale distributed systems

  • Experience with Linear programming models and optimization tools (AMPL, CPlex, Gurobi, etc.)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
