Akamai's System Communications team is looking for a talented Software Engineer to join the Metadata development team. You will be involved with the design, implementation and maintenance of a critical configuration management system that is essential for Akamai’s content distribution network.
As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for the following :
Creating new features from scratch, enhance existing features and optimize existing functionality,from conception and design through testing and deployment.
Work on projects that make our systems more stable, scalable, faster and secure
Work to understand, explain and improve complicated code bases
Design and maintain interfaces to the system and support tools
Working with our development QA and system QA teams to come up with regression tests that cover new changes to our software.
Working with our 3rd level engineering support to troubleshoot complex problems on our network for our customers.
About the Team
System Communications Metadata Team comprises a team of over 20 engineers who develop distributed systems that support Akamai's global network. These systems operate behind the scenes to provide the fault-tolerant and highly-scalable core of Akamai's configuration and health monitoring systems.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or
An advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
2+ years of experience in server-side or UI development and/or QA engineering
2+ years of experience with Python, C/C++, or Java on Linux or a Unix based OS
2+ years of experience working with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and TLS/SSL
1+ years of experience building scalable systems in distributed environments
Education: Masters or Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field with a focus on networking, distributed systems, system architecture, etc. Or Equivalent professional experience.
Proven track record of delivering large amounts of high quality, complex code
Highly responsible, self-disciplined, self-managed, self-motivated, able to work with little or no supervision.
Extensive experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast paced, results oriented environment.
Experience with API design.
Experience working with Internet protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS.
Experience with SQL is preferred; familiarity with NoSQL database systems is a plus.
Familiarity with Perl and Linux shell scripts is also a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Experience with databases and SQL
