We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer who will work on delivering exceptional functionality to Akamai customers. The person in this role will be working on developing the next generation security products, data analysis tools and monitoring/alerting systems. Join a fast-paced team in Akamai’s Security Unit charged with protecting the largest brands against the unpredictable landscape of evolving botnets and malware. Bad actors might build massive botnets or new automated attack systems; you’ll help dismantle and cripple them in real, internet time.
As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:
* Build highly scalable automated alerting systems to detect anomalies, false positives and massive attacks.
* Develop data analysis and visualization tools which will help customers and internal support teams.
* Collaborate with other development teams, support staff and subject matter experts in all phases of development.
* Work in all application tiers from front-end to application framework to data management.
* Research, keep abreast of current malware, botnets, or other automated agent trends and provide insights for further product enhancements
About the Team
Our team is part of the Cloud Security organization, which has responsibility for the technologies that power Security Products. These include Kona Site Defender, Bot Management, Web Application Firewall and Siteshield. These provide protection from both DDoS and application specific web attacks with high availability.
Akamai’s global footprint of over 220,000 servers provides an overlay network with scale and capacity to not just deliver the largest web events but also secure the largest Internet brands from attack. The team builds and extends Akamai’s highly fault-tolerant wide area distributed content delivery and application acceleration systems to improve performance, security, reliability and availability of high value web sites. Required Education and Experience:
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
Relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or
Relevant experience and a Master’s degree
1+ years developing web applications either in UI, server, or both:
Excellent communication skills; both written and oral
1+ year with server-side development using Java and SQL
Familiarity with the quirks and idiosyncrasies of major browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Windows IE/Edge
Good understanding of browser specifics and their version histories.
Knowledge of CDN, “middleware” like NAT proxies, security gateways, or A/B testing solutions sitting in between a CDN and origin
Solid knowledge of the HTTP protocol
Experience and familiarity in web security
Exposure to mobile networks and development
Some experience developing applications in iOS or Android
Must be articulate and able to think on their feet when engaging in group discussions
Social collaboration: leveraging peers in Engineering, Security Research, Service Performance, and Operations will be integral to daily success
Open to flexible schedule and availability (mostly infrequent, kept at a minimum, but serious security incidents do demand attention at odd hours)
