About The Job
The Akamai Storage Engineering team is seeking a Manager of Engineering who will be responsible for leading a group of senior engineers responsible for maintenance, feature development and automation of Akamai’s various storage platforms.
As an Engineering Manager you will:
Learn and apply Akamai engineering and deployment processes.
Communicate clearly and openly with internal and external stakeholders regarding progress, roadblocks, and timelines.
Manage internal and external communication
Stay abreast with the technical and business landscape to make timely reprioritization
Recruit, mentor, retain and lead a growing team of talented Software Development Engineers to their full potential.
Inspire engineers to work effectively, leading by example and keeping enthusiasm high in tight-deadline situations.
Understand development challenges and translate the issues to management.
Working with architects, engineers, program management to provide technical scoping and design of projects to ensure that projects deliver the expected value on time and with high quality.
Handle day-to-day management tasks such as performance reviews, managing time off, recruiting and resource coordination.
Work closely with management to identify risks, solve problems, and maintain progress.
Communicate with Akamai’s Platform operations teams to understand and identify issues along with management of operational software issues.
Work with Principal Engineers and Architects to provide training, guidance, and growth opportunities for engineers
Interoperate with dev-test and automation engineers from Santa Clara, Cambridge and Bangalore

The Media Division is responsible for all of the software used to deliver, download, store, and manage digital media and other content via the Akamai platform. You will be a member of a highly skilled engineering team that's responsible for the software that powers Akamai's delivery platform, one of the largest distributed systems in the world.
The NetStorage engineering team is responsible for architecting and creating Akamai’s cloud storage solution. The team is a diverse group of engineers located in Santa Clara, San Diego, Cambridge and Bangalore. Having access to Akamai’s broad networking experience, global footprint, and high profile customer base allows the team to create an innovative product with global impact.
Required Education and Experience:
8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or
6 years of relevant experience and a Masters degree or
3 years or relevant experience and a PhD
8+ years of production software development experience
8+ years of experience with various software development methodologies
4+ years of managing teams developing with C/C+Desired Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate and work well with others at all levels in the organization.
Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and team-focused environment.
Highly responsible, self-disciplined, motivational, creative, and confident.
Experience as a senior engineer is ideal.
Understanding of Internet protocols, including IP, HTTP, TCP and DNS.
Desired experience with secure transfer methods TLS and SSH
Desired experience with SQL and NOSQL databases.
Required understanding of load balancing
Required experience developing or managing distributed systems software
Proven ability to multi-task with a focus on tracking, results and reporting.
